On the 30th April 2010, the current Durban Airport located to the south of the city will process its last flight and the next morning all planes will fly from the new Durban International airport situated in the north, at La Mercy. The plan for the seamless handover from old airport to new is being carefully managed by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA).
2010 visitors will have their first glimpse of Durban from a spacious, air conditioned complex with separate Arrival and Departure terminals. A range of relaxation areas, shops, restaurants and entertainment options will keep passengers occupied while waiting for flights. Convenient hotels and conference centres also form part of the development which is minutes from the beaches and resorts of Durban’s North Coast.
Durban International Airport will be three times the size of the current airport and, with the longer runways and larger terminals, will be able to service the largest aircraft in the world - meaning more direct international flights to and from Durban.

The new Durban International Airport with its state-of-the-art cargo terminal forms part of Dube Tradeport project which will create a logistics and business hub for the Durban area.
The massive R102 road enhancement project will link Durban’s industrial areas with the Dube Tradeport, providing an alternative, four lane highway for trucks and heavy vehicles which will alleviate congestion on the existing route.
