Friday, October 30, marks a special day for KwaMashu’s Princess Magogo Stadium. That’s when two of the stadiums four lighting masts will be erected, weather permitting.
Each mast is 42m high and contains 47 lights (giving off 2 000 watts per light). The other two masts will be erected within the next two weeks.
The masts are made in South Africa and the light fittings assembled here as well. Once up, the lights will enable night matches at the Princess Magogo stadium to be televised.
The stadium is one of the 2010 training venues and the new lights are part of an upgrade that will turn the stadium into a multifunctional venue able to accommodate athletics and rugby in addition to football and host non-sporting events.
In addition, the surrounding areas are being developed so that the stadium will become the centrepiece of a sport and recreation hub that can be expanded upon in the coming years.
In this way the City seeks to ensure that investment in 2010 training venue upgrades leaves a lasting legacy by providing local communities with multi-purpose sports and recreation centres.
We believe the raising of the lights will be a great photo opportunity. For more information, please contact Dave Renwick 083 259 1165.
